Charlie Brown revealed.

Schultz explored lots of different philosophical ideas in his Peanuts strip. Even bringing in a psychoanalysis/lemonade stall for the characters to discuss their fears. In my version Brown is now an adult, he has given up on the 'football of life' and is finding therapy in beer and drugs.
Schulz wrote of laying awake at night and asking the universe 'why me ?' and he said a voice whispered back ' I dunno', your name just came up is all'.

  2. LOL Is that really how you view Charlie all grown up? This is Charlie Brown, not Charlie Sheen. LMAO Great work and very creative ;)

    1. lOL, Well, even Schultz said that Brown was just a metaphor for his own social anxiety and worries. Can you imagine Sheen ?,more women with black eyes, it would be an Andy Capp comic. Ka-pow.

    1. Lol, what types of herbs though, do you mean...shaggy and scooby herbs? I don't really drink much, British pubs are great for drawing people, but they get nosey when they have had a few. I can imagine you on a bar top with a beer in one hand getting everyone to have a good time.

    2. very clinical sort of herbs ! hahaha.
people can be overtly friendly (and nosey) when they drink a lot and sometimes, its not cool.
oh yes. i always have a good time :) i love dancing, and for that i go to a nice club with music i can relate to ! i'm quite a live wire of parties i've been told :)

  5. I always figured Charlie Brown would put a gun in his mouth before he ever reached adulthood. That was one depressed kid.

    1. Thanks Banacek, yeah lolol. He looks the type, but he has patty and thelma and snoopy for company, i read a few interesting articles that all the characters in Peanuts were metaphors for social ideas or philosphers. Or it could just be a silly dog and a football head.

  6. I've never read the comics, or even took a second glance at the characters. As far as I know, Snoopy is (or was?) a household name and... that's it really...

I might read the comics but I ain't holding my breath.

    1. Lol, just get it for free online. Their more interesting than the usual newspaper strips , because of the ideas Schultz was talking about. Snoopy was the poodle, you must have seen some of it. It is so marketed, its everywhere. Ker-ching.

  7. Quite a sad thing really, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he did indeed go through a beer and drugs phase, either.

    1. Thnks Tera, but no one saw it as funny, which was partially what i was trying to achieve, but also explore some transgressive ideas. Anyway everyone goes through those periods i think, i never took drugs, but i did drink cheap cider and try to chat up older girls who were not impressed by my lines.

  8. Sad but realistic :) Just out of interest, who do you think Charlie Brown ended up marrying?

    1. Ha, this is a good one, well everyone says Peppermint Patty likes sensible shoes and she is in a relationship now with that girl with the black hair Marcie. I think Charlie would marry some woman who doesnt mind a talking dog and his miserable outlook on life. He could marry Helga from Hey Arnold, Arnold has the same head as Charlie and...ugh lol i cannot beleive im saying this seriously. It is interesting how we take these childhood shows and we update them we try to carry them in to adult hood. Maybe its like a security?

    2. Security yes. I took a strange comfort in watching Charlie Brown cartoons. And Garfield too, come to think of it. It felt "safe and warm" - y'know what I mean...

  9. I like the tragic and realistic view you have of him. Happy endings are overrated and overused.

    1. Thanks Matt the cam bleached a lot of it sadly, everything looks terrible on my cam. Anyway it was less a cynical drawing and morea bout exploring ideas, exrepolating things. I saw it as funny actually.

    2. Honestly I didn't think it about it being funny until you mentioned it but it is kind of funny. Poor Charlie brown, always the butt of every joke. That's the kind of art I like though, the kind that can be interpreted different ways. Great job!
